Mari has worked as a Pastoral Counselor since 2007. She grew up in Japan, where her parents were missionaries. After graduating from college, she went to work with court-referred youth and families in Colorado Springs, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Her experience in the social services led her to seek a better understanding of how people change and encounter hope. She pursued her training at Westminster Theoligical Seminary, where she received a Masters of Divinity with an emphasis in counseling. Mari’s counseling is greatly influenced by the interweaving of human stories and God’s story. She lives in the East End of Pittsburgh with her husband, three kids, and rambunctious dog. She counsels out of the Workshop at Church of the Ascension in Oakland.
